Discussion Group: Perspectives on China and the U.S. – What will Change?

This event is one of a series of Société sponsored discussion groups on topics that are of importance to those who are involved in the chemical and life science industries. The concept is to have a virtual gathering of both people who are familiar with the topic and want to share ideas and people who want to learn. We will put those who register into individual discussion rooms of no more than 15, led by a knowledgeable discussion facilitator who will guide the one hour discussion. No speakers, just a sharing of ideas and experiences.

Registration will be first come, first serve with the only limit being the number of discussion rooms that we will be able to support. We will operate using Chatham House rules, i.e. you can tell someone else about things you learn, but you cannot quote the person who said it. This common rule is used so that the attendees will not feel inhibited with regard to their comments.

This discussion group is a companion event to the March 3 Société de Chimie Industrielle panel webcast on the same topic, featuring two leading experts from SupChina.

The relationship of China and the U.S. has been changing rapidly for many years now as the economic, political and military dynamics have changed and the government policies of both countries have evolved. The future trajectories of these two countries and their relationship with each other will be closely watched and will likely be one of the most important dynamics in the future in terms of global trends.

Where is China headed economically and politically? Similarly, what can one expect in the U.S. along the same lines? With the change in the U.S. President, what can we expect in terms of the policies of the Biden administration and how will they compare to the Trump administration policies? What reaction can we expect from the Chinese? How does China view the U.S. today along the dimensions of a competing global economic, political and military power? What are the implications for U.S. companies whose businesses are in anyway impacted by the China and U.S. intersection?

The discussion group will focus on these issues and the perspectives that the discussion group participants will share with each other.
