Steve Somers, the president of Vigon International, purchased Vigon in 1998, ten years after its founding when it was only a $5 million revenue company. Vigon is a very successful manufacturer and distributor of specialty ingredients designed for the flavors, fragrances and cosmetics markets. The company's on-site manufacturing capabilities allow it to offer a comprehensive product portfolio that includes flavors, natural and synthetic aroma chemicals, actives, functional ingredients and essential oils and also provides custom manufacturing service. Mr. Somers will talk about founding and growth of the company, the tough choices he made along the way, his unique personal philosophies, and the challenges he faced as he led it through market and economic challenges over the last 23 years, including the pandemic. Vigon has grown to 130 team members and sales in excess of $150 million.
His strong beliefs, creativity, resilience and focus were the key contributing factors to successfully navigating through the highs and lows, including the unprecedented event we have all witnessed over the last 18 months and maintaining growth, profitability and a strong & demonstrated concern for employees and their families. This has continued since the June 2021 acquisition of Vigon by Azelis SA.

Steve Somers is the President of Vigon. With an MS in Analytical Chemistry, he began his career on the technical side of the flavor and fragrance industry, eventually ending up at Givaudan. Steve moved rapidly up through the organization, being appointed as the Business Director of Givaudan’s Fragrance Ingredient Division and soon after promoted to Director of Sales for North America. In pursuit of his vision of creating a unique and progressive company, Steve purchased Vigon International in 1998. Under Steve’s leadership, Vigon emerged as one of the flavor and fragrance industry’s fastest growing companies – expanding from a 9 person, $5 million revenue company in 1998, to the 130 person, $150 million revenue entity that it is today. With a passion for simplicity, Vigon prides itself on its premium customer service, and its rapid turn-around time in producing and delivering over 2,000 products for the flavor, fragrance, and cosmetic industries.
In 2016 Somers was selected as the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for the Greater Philadelphia area.
