The pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device industries have been growing rapidly and have increasingly relied on third parties. The pharmaceutical contract research organization (CRO) industry is growing at 7% and was valued at $40 billion in 2020. Industry estimates suggest that 50% of clinical development is currently outsourced. This is expected to rise amid rising the cost and complexity of therapeutic development in an increasingly burdensome reimbursement and stringent regulatory environment. Stephen Cutler is CEO of one of the largest CROs and will comment via a fireside chat on the major trends, why outsourcing continues to expand, and the innovation and R&D capabilities that CROs are bring to their customers.
