Virtual Career Networking Event

Société is holding a one hour panel followed by a one hour career networking/recruiting session on March 6 (6 pm EDT). Join us in our virtual ballroom, where students will meet with company representatives and with Société members who are involved with the chemical industry. Students to be invited will be undergraduate and graduate chemistry and chemical engineering students from top US schools.

To kick off the event, Société is featuring an hour-long panel discussion in cooperation with the American Chemical Society (ACS) focusing on Non-traditional Careers in Chemistry and Life Sciences. Topics will include careers at start-ups, consulting, and finance.

About our Speakers:


Judy Giordan is the co-founder of the Chemical Angels Network, Managing Director of ecosVC, Inc., venture founder and former Fortune 100 executive. Judy serves as board member, co-founder, advisor and investor in seed and early-stage start-ups and was 2023 ACS President and Member of the ACS Board of Directors.

Her previous executive positions include Corporate Vice President and Global Director of Research and Development at International Flavors and Fragrances, Inc.; Vice-President Worldwide Research and Development for the Pepsi-Cola Company, the global beverage arm of PepsiCo, Inc.; Vice President Research and Development, Henkel Corporation, the North American operating unit of the Henkel Group; co-founder of ventures in areas including biofuels and executive search, she has also held management and technical contributor positions at Polaroid and ALCOA and has served with the National Science Foundation as a member of the Math and Physical Sciences Directorate and Chemistry Advisory Boards, Chair of the Alan T. Waterman Award Committee and as IGERT Program Officer.

Judy has a BS in Environmental Science and VoTech Ag from Rutgers University; PhD in Chemistry from the University of Maryland; and was an Alexander von Humboldt post doctoral fellow at the Goethe University, Frankfurt, Germany.

Dr. Susan R. Morrissey is the SVP of Strategic Initiatives and Chief of Staff at the American Chemical Society. As part of the executive leadership team, she oversees strategic planning, government affairs and other key initiatives. During her 25 years at ACS, she has served as VP of Communications, Publisher of Chemical & Engineering News (C&EN), Director of Communications, Assistant Director of Science Communications and Assistant Managing Editor of Government and Policy at C&EN. She holds an undergraduate degree in chemistry from Franklin & Marshall College and a Ph.D. in chemistry from Texas A&M University.

Peter Young is CEO and a Managing Director of Young & Partners, an international investment banking and corporate/financial strategy firm focused on the chemical and life sciences industries. Young & Partners serves the M&A, capital raising, bankruptcy and restructuring, strategy and financial advisory needs of large and medium sized companies in the U.S., Europe, Latin America and Asia. Prior to Young & Partners, he was global head of chemicals investment banking at Lehman Brothers and a Partner and global head of chemicals investment banking at Schroders. Before Schroders he was head of chemicals M&A at Salomon Brothers, a senior investment officer at J. H. Whitney, the private equity/venture capital firm, and a strategy consultant at Bain & Company.

He has a BA from Yale in Economics, an MS in Accounting from New York University, and an MBA from Harvard Business School where he graduated as a Baker Scholar. He is a board member and head of programs at Societe de Chimie Industrial, a Board Member of the Committee of 100, and a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Pharmaceutical Executive.
