About this event
Dealing with Disruptions
The chemical industry is facing an unprecedented number of disruptions that have only escalated in the last few months.
Prior to the new tariff actions by the United States, the chemical industry was already facing a downturn in commodity chemical capacity utilizations (driven by Chinese and Middle East “strategic” expansions on top of normal cyclical industry capital expenditures), a slowing of growth in China and Europe, supply chain disruptions, geopolitical tensions, a number of regional wars, pressures from environmental movements such as zero-carbon and climate change, persistent inflation, and so on.
Recently, there has been a further increase in the number of disruptions caused by the tariffs imposed by the U.S., increased conflict in Gaza, conflicts between Pakistan and India, the increased threat of a takeover of Taiwan, the threat of increased inflation in the U.S. and elsewhere, the destabilization of the dollar and a weakening of U.S. treasury debt.
We have two experts who will give their view of what the disruptions are, their genesis, the impact that they are having and will have on the chemical industry, what the future may look like, who the winners and losers will be, how companies can do the right self- assessment to determine how bad the situation will be for them and what their strategic and financial options are.
