Nathan Barber, President & CEO, Opgrade LLC
Nathan Barber is a process improvement consultant and licensed Professional Engineer with more than 20 years of experience helping organizations cut through complexity and solve their own problems. As President & CEO of Opgrade LLC, he has worked across industries—from roofing and chemicals to energy and software—helping teams cut costs, improve quality, and build systems that sustain progress.
Nathan is the creator of the SIMPLE framework—Start with Strategy, Invite Accountability, Measure What Matters, Process Makes Perfect, Learn from Mistakes, and Enhance Your Culture—a practical approach that guides teams from clear direction to lasting cultural change. He also brings deep expertise in Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability (RAM) analysis, with a proprietary solver used on multi-billion dollar capital projects in power and chemical facilities. Nathan holds two engineering degrees from the University of Michigan, an Executive MBA from UTSA, and lives in San Antonio with his wife and five children.

Jerry Grunewald, Retired VP R&D and Operation, INVISTA
Jerry recently retired after 36 years in the chemicals and materials industry. He began his career as a research chemist and went on to hold a variety of senior leadership position in Technology and Operations first at DuPont and then at Koch Industries after the intermediates, polymers, and fibers business was sold in 2004. At the time of his retirement, Jerry was the Vice President of R&D at INVISTA and was a leader of the Koch corporate technology council.
Over the course of his career, Jerry led teams across all INVISTA’s 13 global operating sites and oversaw several lab – pilot – plant process and product commercial deployments. He was also a key leader in INVISTA’s expansions in China. Prior to moving back into R&D in 2023, Jerry led INVISTA’s efforts in Digital Transformation focused on bringing the promise of the plant of the future into reality. Post retirement, Jerry is remaining active in the technology field as Principal of Grunewald Consulting Services where he is guiding clients in the Industry 4.0 and Generative AI arena and green chemistry developments focusing on post-consumer waste recycling.
Jerry received his undergraduate degree from La Salle University, and Ph.D. in Organometallic Chemistry from the University of Florida. He is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt and Master Black Belt and an advanced instructor in the TRIZ problem solving methodology. He is an active angel investor and has served on a variety of non-profit and industry leadership boards. Jerry and his wife Cindy are proud parents of Chris, who is an investment banker and Jon, who is a battery/energy storage engineer. Like many Philadelphians, Jerry is an often frustrated, but always passionate fan of the Eagles, Phillies, Sixers, and Flyers.
