Investing in our future!

That's exactly what Société de Chimie Industrielle does by funding undergraduate student research at Columbia University.

On Wednesday, July 31, Vinicius Avelar, Andrew Kelly, and Erik Trebilcock presented and discussed their work at the Chemistry Department's Summer Research Symposium organized by Undergraduate Studies Director Vesna Gasperov. Avelar focused on Time-Resolving the Coherence of Ryedberg Exciton States in Cuprite; Kelly presented his Kinetic Study of Effects of Surface Chemistry Tuning on CdS Nanocrystal Photocatalysts; and Trebilcock reviewed his research on Photoredox Catalyzed C-H Functionalization via Hydrogen Atom Transfer with Alkynyl Radicals.

Needless to say, highly impressive work by these undergraduate students who have a strong passion for chemistry research and want to address needs in chemical processes and synthesis of natural products, pharmaceuticals, and materials.

Who We Are

Société was founded in 1918 in New York as the American Section of a French parent. Today, Société is an independent organization involved in a number of non-profit activities: sponsoring a noted monthly meeting program, open to nonmembers, at which prominent CEOs, government leaders and scientists from the chemical and related industries share their views on important industry developments; granting fellowships and scholarships to students pursuing the study of chemistry; honoring individuals who have contributed significantly to the industry; and providing a variety of other services to individuals and companies in the industry.
